Kappa Psi Chapter History

Alpha Kappa Alpha’s presence on the University of Oklahoma dates back to 1967. Prior to Kappa Psi’s establishment, any women interested in joining the sorority had to go through the Beta Beta chapter.  During this time, Beta Beta was a multi-campus chapter under the umbrella of our graduate chapter, Beta Sigma Omega, in Oklahoma City.  As the number of sorors on campus grew, so did the dream of establishing a chapter at OU.

In the summer of 1976, 14 dedicated women amassed enough members to support a chapter. The Kappa Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was officially chartered on July 1, 1976 under the foresight of the Regional Director, Soror Dorothy Parker.

As the successors of our chapter’s charter members, we will continue to perpetuate the Alpha Kappa Alpha legacy, nurture Kappa Psi and be of service to all mankind.
